ON MATERIAL ECONOMICS BEING TOO IMPORTANT TO US

It seems to me that North American societies’ trust of men in white lab coats has been replaced by a trust in economists. When “It’s the economy, stupid!” is a big part of political campaigns, something has changed. Also when national moods rise and fall with the market indexes, something is in danger. Here is an article that touches on that transition: “The Market As God” by Harvey Cox, which was originally published in the Altantic Monthly.
